We know an unexpected pregnancy can raise many questions. Here are answers to some of the questions we hear most often. If you don’t see your question below, contact us to schedule a free and confidential appointment.

Can I bring someone with me?

Absolutely. A partner, a parent, a friend, whoever helps you feel steady. If you’d rather come alone, that works too.

Plan on about an hour, though it depends on your specific appointment type. If you need more time to talk, you can stay longer.

An ectopic pregnancy grows outside the uterus, usually in a fallopian tube, and it can’t continue safely, but a pregnancy test will still read positive. Early warning signs are often light vaginal bleeding and pelvic pain, and blood leaking from the tube can cause shoulder pain; severe pain with bleeding needs emergency care right away. An ultrasound is what confirms the pregnancy’s location.

For the most accurate result, it’s generally best to take a pregnancy test after you’ve missed your period. Pregnancy tests work by detecting the pregnancy hormone hCG, which increases rapidly during early pregnancy. Testing too early may result in a false negative. If you’re unsure about your results, we offer free pregnancy testing and can help you understand your next steps.

A pregnancy test can indicate that you’re pregnant, but an ultrasound provides additional information about your pregnancy. A limited ultrasound can help determine how far along you are, whether the pregnancy is located in the uterus, and whether the pregnancy appears to be progressing normally.

Many sexually transmitted diseases (STDs) do not cause noticeable symptoms, which means it’s possible to have an STD without knowing it. If you’re sexually active and concerned about your sexual health, it’s important to seek testing and medical care. Our staff can discuss your concerns and connect you with appropriate community resources.
